 COCKPIT AND DRIVER SAFETY

High back aluminum drivers seat are required, mounted with four 5/16" bolts minimum. A head rest is required on the right side of the driver’s seat unless is driver is wearing a safety approved head restraint system.  This head rest can be quick release to aid in the removal of the driver.  Left side head rest and shoulder supports are recommended.  3" driver seat belts and shoulder harness are mandatory (5 Pt. harness) and shall be bolted or fastened to the frame. Each belt should fasten separately to a common quick release type unit. Any belt showing wear or deterioration will not be allowed. Seat belts must be stamped within 3 years or newer and are subject to tech approval. The complete belt assembly shall be worn at all times while the driver is on the racing surface. The lap belt is designed to hold the lower abdomen, hip and pelvic area into the seat and to provide the majority of control in holding your body down into the seat bottom. The lap belt should be mounted at a 45-degree angle to the spine no matter what inclination your seating position provides. Always allow the lap belt to lie across your lower abdomen and route smoothly all the way around the hips to provide as much distribution of weight as possible. The lap belt should not be routed over the top of the sides of the seat. We want belts to hold your body, not the seat. It is important to route the lap belt through the slot provided in the seat, to provide proper distribution of pull. The shoulder harness is the most abused belt in the harness system. Used improperly, these belts will hurt you in a hard crash. The main function of the shoulder harness is to hold your torso back into the seat. The shoulder harness should be routed so they pass over the top of the shoulder, traverse at a 90 degree angle to the spine no matter what the inclination your seating position provides. This allows you to provide the proper tension required to hold your upper body back into the seat without taking your breath. The belts should not be allowed to run down your back below shoulder height before crossing through the shoulder harness slot in the seat, or to permit the belt to run across the bony structure at the perimeter of the shoulder or damage will result. The shoulder belts should be routed through the holes provided in the seat and across the cage tube to provide the best control of location of the belt. Side nets are required on both sides of the cockpit. Left side net must be of quick release type. A rock screen is required to be attached to the front roll bars by steel clamps. Screen is to be painted flat black. The screen is to be made of 1/8” wire mesh with a hole size of 2”x2” squares. Screen must cover completely from left to right roll bars and may have a maximum gap 4” top and bottom from horizontal roll cage tubes. All protrusions, brackets, and bracing in the cockpit area (including roll cage) shall have smooth or rounded edges. An engine kill-switch is mandatory and must be mounted in a location accessible to both the driver and safety crew. Engine components, body panels, etc. shall not obstruct driver’s vision, no mirrors will be allowed. Radio communications between the driver and the pit crew is not allowed. All critical bolts must be drilled and pinned (steering, brakes, spin plates).

DRIVER APPAREL

The driver shall wear full protective racing apparel. A full-face helmet with proper fastening and protective eye shield is required. It must be current Snell Foundation testing standard Snell 2000 or better. A fire resistant helmet, nomex balaclava (head sock) and fire resistant driving shoes are recommended. A minimum of a single layer proban driving suit, one or two piece is mandatory. Safety approved neck collar is mandatory unless the driver is wearing a safety approved head restraint system. Arm restraints worn below elbow are mandatory. Nomex driving gloves are mandatory. The track management reserves the right to disallow any safety equipment that is questionable in nature.

The track management reserves the right to disqualify any competitor deemed "unfit to race" by track personnel. If a driver is rendered unconscious from an accident on the track, the driver upon regaining consciousness, shall be unable to compete for the duration of the evening. If a driver receives an injury requiring hospitalization or continuous care by a physician, the driver shall be required to submit in writing, a medical release on the attending physician's letterhead and it shall be received by track management 24 hours prior to the next scheduled race meet in which the driver wishes to participate. Failure to do so could result in disqualification before or after a race. If a car is in violation of any car specifications, the management reserves the right to impound the component or that portion of the car that is in question for further examination. Track management reserves the right to impound any car involved in a personal injury accident of any kind for up to 72 hours from the time of the accident. Cars entering the pits during the race may re-enter the same race, with the direction from the pit steward, at the end of the next caution period and must rejoin at the end of the field. Any car that re-enters the race without the direction or consent of the pit steward shall not be scored and be disqualified from that race. Drivers with concerns will not attempt to talk to any track official during or after races. Any driver that does voice his opinion (this includes hand gestures) to track officials during or after the races will be subject to loss of points for the night, points for the year or suspension from further racing. Drivers that wish to voice their concerns will do so to the driver representatives, who in turn will speak with track officials. There will be four driver’s reps., these driver reps. only will voice all drivers' opinions and concerns to track officials. Track officials will make all the calls on accidents. If they can't decide who or what caused the accident, all cars involved will be sent to the rear. Failure to take your restart position immediately will result in lap penalties or disqualification from that race. Any car stopped on the track due to accident or mechanical problem will be pushed to the pits by the four wheelers. There the car can be restarted and rejoin the race as directed by the pit steward. Each racecar will be allowed 1driver and 3 crewmembers per car. Track rules require all spectators must stay out of the pits until racing has concluded. Cars found to have more than 4 people will be given one verbal warning. If they persist penalties will be applied. Driver and pit crew will sign in with car number. Pit passes will be issued at sign in. And hand stamps will be required to leave and enter the pit area. All teams must have a fully charged fire extinguisher in plain sight in there pit area at all times.  Microsprints that miss a night of racing will be forced to start at the rear of their heat race and if they qualify from the heat race they will start at best 13th in the A feature.  These start positions will continue in the weeks of return of the micro sprint for the duration the micro sprint was absent.  Eg.  #00 micro sprint misses 2 weeks, the following 2 weeks micro sprint #00 is racing he will start last in the heat race with a highest starting position of 13th in the A feature.  All involved cars in the initial caution will be rendered to the rear of the field.  This will be a trial situation and will be under review until the 2008 Bill Davis Memorial.
