Sept 13, 2003 The weather on Saturday for the big race was perfect. The teams starting showing up around 3:00 Saturday afternoon. Track owner Hugh Smibert had been preparing the track all week and it showed. The track was in perfect condition - possibly the best it has been all year. Hotlaps started around 4:00 with time trials beginning just after 5:00. You could tell everyone was anxious, as there were several crashes during hotlaps! Again this year, the times in the time trials were very close. 1st place had a time of 11:02 and 48th place was 13:646. The Micros ran the 1st feature, with #10, Bob Marr the eventual winner. The Outlaw feature was decided on the LAST LAP, with #44, Barry Dunn passing #301, Ron Veroughstrate in corners 1 & 2. Thanks to everyone for a great racing season!!!! Hope to see everyone at the banquet on Nov 14, 2004! |

July 25, 2003 OUTLAW B MAIN. The Outlaw B Main was very fast and exciting to watch tonight. There was a lot of passing both in the front of the pack and at the back giving us a lot of neck to neck competitiveness in the back and bumper-to-bumper racing in the top 5. They were racing two wide for quite a few laps in the front half of the pack. The Outlaw B main was won by # 8 Ken Lewis after a tough race holding off #91 Kyle Watters, #02 Hugh Smibert and # 36 Casey Cox who were fiercely breathing down his neck for the whole race. MICRO B MAIN The Micro B Main was equally exciting to watch tonight, as there was a lot of passing in the back half of the pack while the top runners remained the same. Six of the top 10 in points were in the B Main. # 13 Kurt Rotterman, who started the race on inside pole caught the back markers around the ½ mark of the race, and continued on to win the B Main. # 69 Andy Wells and # 5A D. Rabkin had a bit of a rough night with spinouts but appeared to be undamaged. OUTLAW "A" MAIN The DR INSELL Transport Inc. "A" main was fast paced as # 45 Curtis Gartly moved from 3rd position to take the lead once again early in the race. Substitute driver Dan Lamers, put on an exciting race of his own as he and # 301, Ron Veroughstrate, ran cleanly but hard together, until # 301 secured the 2nd position and # 3 took over the 3rd position. The # 3 car is owned and usually driven by Steve Wells, I am sure Steve will be pleased to hear that his car did so well and all without any damage. # 11, Norm Brunette, and # 62, Steve Burlotte, ran wheel to wheel for several laps with out mishap and was exciting to watch. # 20, Mark Watson, had a bit of bad luck when he spun out and lost a rear wheel again. MICRO "A" MAIN The DR INSELL Transport Inc. Micro "A" Main was also fast paced and great to watch as all the other races were tonight. # 90, Mark Lamont, started out on inside pole, but was soon forced to give it over to rookie # 55, Jordan Hanna. # 76, Sean Durand, who started in the 3rd position moved up quickly to 2nd followed by # 203 Stan Adams in 3rd. # 76, Sean soon passed # 55 and had # 203 breathing down his neck as he passed # 55 as well. # 76 lead the race for quite a while, trying to break away from # 203. #203 Stan eventually took over the lead from # 76 and # 55 took the 3rd position as the rest of the pack fought for positioning of their own. The race was moving quickly with a few minor cautions until an upset involving # 76 sent Sean to the back and giving # 203 Stan Adams a clear shot at the lead. Mean while # 32 Dan Lamers was once again driving with a purpose in his own car, as he moved from the 15th position up through the pack to finish the race in 3rd. Congratulations to all the competitors and officials for another great night of racing. Special thanks to the track owner, Hugh Smibert for all his hard work getting the track ready for racing every Friday night. Next race Aug 8, 2003! |

Bill Davis Memorial - 75 lap feature for the Outlaws and Micros. From all accounts it rained everywhere in the London / St. Thomas area EXCEPT Wonderland Speedway. Hugh Smibert had the track perfectly prepared for the Bill Davis Memorial, 75 Lap A Feature.. It was decided that the Micros would run their feature first and the Outlaws would run the second feature. MICROS The Micros ran 3 heats with 10 cars in the 1st 2 heats, and 9 cars in the last. Top 6 from each heat would qualify for the feature. For the unlucky few that didn't qualify in their heat race, they had to run a 15 lap B feature - with the top 6 moving onto the A feature. At the start of the Micro feature, the Micros did several parade laps 4 wide, after the parade laps, they lined up 2 abreast and started the feature. #32 (Dan Laemers) had the early lead until he was eventually passed by #27 (Nathen Housden). Racing in the pack was hard and very close with only a few cautions. #27 held on and won the Bill Davis Memorial 75 lap A feature! OUTLAWS The Outlaws ran 2 heat races and then their 75 lap A main. Again, at the start of the A main they Outlaws did several parade laps 4 wide, always a fan favorite. #20 (Mark Watson) took the early lead with #45 (Curtis Gartly) running in 2nd place. #20 would gain a little each lap and it looked like he would lead from start to finish. However, after a long green flag run, #20 and #45 had to deal with lapped traffic. #45 was gaining on #20 until the 1st caution flew. After the restart #20 again began to pull slightly away from #45 - until lapped traffic became a factor. This time, a caution did not fly and eventually #45 caught up to # 20. #45 managed to pass #20 using the lapped cars to his advantage. Then without warning #20 had a mechanical failure and hit the tire wall in corner 1 with a tremendous impact. The tires then 'threw' him back into oncoming traffic, with #02 (Hugh Smibert) and #36 (Casy Cox) unable to avoid the #20. Although #20 (Mark Watson) was shaken up, he was not seriously hurt and was able to walk off the track under his own power. After the race restarted, #45 (Curtis Gartly) held on to the lead and won the Bill Davis Memorial 75 lap feature. Congratulations to #27 (Nathon Housden) and #45 Curtis Gartley for their feature win! |

"A" Feature - Top 10 Micro Points (June 27, 2003) |
Another great night of racing! Mark Watson was doing double duty, running his own #20 Outlaw and also running the #203 in the Micros. The Micro feature was probably the best so far this year. Long green flag runs that let the racers race. Mid way through the race there was a nasty incident on the back stretch that involved several cars, including the #203 (Mark Watson) and #40 (Shawn Preston), both were done for the night. Several cars were on the move towards the front including the previous feature winner #13 (Kurt Roterman) and #30 (Greg Smulders) but unfortunately #30 had mechanical trouble and had to drop out and #13 got sideways and had to go to the back. #21 (Ron Prince) did a great job of holding back the #97 (Kenny Charboneau) and the #32 (Dan Laemers) to be rewarded with his first feature win of the year. The Outlaw feature was the last up for the night. Again, the racing was fast and hard, with long green flag runs as well. The last few laps of the feature were exciting to watch - #02 (Hugh Smibert) was out front with #20 (Mark Watson) and #36 (Casey Cox) breathing down his neck. #20 would try the high side then the low side to get around the #02 with #36 behind the #20 - trying his own moves as well. #02 managed to hold off the #20 and #36 and won his first feature race of the 2003 season. Congratulations to Ron Prince and Hugh Smibert! |

Wow! Record car count, 31 Micros and 19 Outlaws! The Outlaw ran their feature first with 17 cars taking the green flag. Mark Watson, #20, won his 3rd feature of the year, while Curtis Gartley, #45, ran a close second. Midway through the race, Hugh Smibert, #02, flipped in corner 3, fortunately Hugh walked away unhurt. At the end of the feature, only 7 or 8 cars were still running, several teams will be working late nights this week to get their cars back in racing order! With 31 cars in the Micro field, it was important to qualify for the A Main, consequently, racing was intense all night. Compared to previous weeks, the Micro feature went off a little smoother this week, everyone must be getting back into the racing grove. Racing at the front was close throughout the feature, but Kurt Roterman, #13, prevailed and picked up his second feature win of the year. Ron Prince, #21, ran a close second with Dan Laemers, #32, finishing 3rd. |

Unfortunately, with the wet weather we had all week, the track was too wet to allow racing. The long range weather forecast is calling for a beautiful day next Friday (June 20th). Lets hope they are right! |

Again, mother nature cooperated and we had
a great night of racing! Several new cars were on hand as well as a ton
of spectators!
However, there must have been a full moon. There were quite a few wrecks. One in particular might go down in the record books as the flip with the most air! #85 in the Micros hit the backstretch wall and almost went into the field on the other side! Fortunately, TJ was not injured - however the same could not be said for his car. The track was in almost perfect condition for the feature races. The Micros ran their feature first. For the second week in a row, the Micros seemed to have a difficult time running consecutive green flag laps. One crash in turns 1 & 2 must have had over 10 cars in it! It was not uncommon to see 2 and 3 wide racing in the pack. Eventually #13, Kurt Roterman came home the winner. The Outlaws put on an impressive feature, with only one caution! Mark Watson (#20) and Hugh Smibert (#02) put on a Drivers clinic and finished one, two, respectively. Congratulations to Kurt Roterman and Mark Watson for their feature wins. |

First race of the year! Even though everyone had many months to get their race cars ready, it seemed that there was many last minute preparations. Mother nature cooperated and the turnout was great, with new drivers in both classes. If a driver had not previously raced at Wonderland Speedway, they were classified as a 'ROOKIE' and had to start at the back of their races. The Outlaws ran their feature 1st, and Mark Watson came home first. The race ran fairly smoothly - no first night jitters. The Micros on the other hand seemed to be a little more umm... impatient. After several attempts at trying to get the race started, the flagman finally decided to start the race single file. Even then it seemed that every few laps there was a caution - as DW in nascar says, cautions breed cautions. Finally the race was cut short (curfew) and Greg Smulders, #30, was the winner. Congratulations to Mark Watson and Greg Smulders for their first wins of the year! |
